DIY Self-Care

At Home Self care 1

Unfortunately at level 3, the luxury of beauty and hair salons are still unavailable.

Meaning, the self-care routine is going to have to stick to the boundaries of our houses for the time being.

No worries though! You can create cheap and easy DIY self-care products using simple products you’ll already have in your kitchen.

Oat and honey

Oats For Outbreaks

Oats contain antioxidants and anti-inflammatory compounds which help to soothe redness, blemishes and irritation. Oats can also help to absorb any excess oil from your skin and can act as a gentler exfoliant.

3 Tbsp ground oats
1 Tsp honey
¼ Cup warm water
Splash of white wine vinegar
Squeeze of lemon

Add all ingredients to a small mixing bowl and combine until it forms a paste. Chill in the fridge for 15 minutes. Apply to a clean and cleansed face. Leave for 5 minutes, then rinse off using circular movements for a light exfoliation.

Cocoa mask

Cocoa Honey Mask

Cocoa is a great source of antioxidants and helps your skin repair cells damaged by UV rays and environmental toxins. Cocoa can also increase blood flow to the skin creating a more radiant and healthier complexion.

1 Tsp cocoa powder
1 Tsp natural yogurt (Or coconut yogurt)
1 Tsp of honey

In a small mixing bowl mix honey and yogurt. Gradually add cocoa. Cocoa can form lumps when added all at once so blend slowly. Cool in the fridge for 10 minutes. Apply to face and leave for 15-20 minutes. Rinse with warm water.

avo hair mask

Avo and Oat Hair Mask

Avocado nourishes and strengthen hair follicles and rich oil leaves your hair feeling a glossy shine. When used regularly it deeply hydrates hair and prevents dryness and damage from heat.

1 Ripe Avocado
1 Tbsp Apple Cider
1 Tbsp Ground Oats
2 Tbsp Coconut Yogurt or Cream

Before starting, shampoo, condition and towel dry hair.

Mash avocado with apple cider and oats until a smooth paste forms. Add coconut yogurt or cream. Apply generously to damp hair, starting at roots and working through to the ends. Leave for 15-20 minutes. Rinse with warm water.

Do not wash out with shampoo as you will remove all of the natural oils you just applied.

rice mask

Rice Water Treatment

In the meantime, shampoo, condition and towel dry hair.

Apply rice water to hair, massaging through roots and tips with fingertips. Leave for 20 minutes. Rinse with warm water.

For best results repeat weekly.
