The 55th Academy of Country Music Awards was held last week and wow, what a night it was!

For the first time ever the event had to be postponed due to COVID back in March earlier this year. Thankfully we were treated to the long awaited award show on the 16th of September with live performances from Taylor Swift, Carrie Underwood, Luke Bryan, Luke Combs and many more beloved country singers.

Keith Urban introduced the acts, hosting from the Grand Ole Opry House. Although there was no physical audience as per tradition, millions of viewers were there in spirit. There was a significant decrease in views compared to previous years, 6.60 million in 2020, 9.9 million in 2019 however, the show still provided CBS a ‘sweep of the night in the demo and in viewers’ according to CNN Entertainment.

13 awards were up for grabs, with five nominees in each category. Luke Combs and Thomas Rett won two awards each.

ENTERTAINER OF THE YEAR

Carrie Underwood and Thomas Rhett took this prize beating nominees Eric Church, Luke Bryan and Luke Combs.

MALE ARTIST OF THE YEAR

Chris Stapelton, Dierks Dentley, Keith Urban and Thomas Rhett were up for Male Artist of the year however, Luke Combs took out the win.

FEMALE ARTIST OF THE YEAR

Maren Morris won, beating Carrie Underwood, Kacey Musgraves, Kelsea Ballerini and Miranda Lambert.

DUO OF THE YEAR

With five nominees and only one duo allowed to take the award out, Dan and Shay won. Other nominees were Brooks & Dunn, Brothers Osborne, Florida Georgia Line and Maddie & Tae.

GROUP OF THE YEAR

Old Dominion won out of the remaining four nominated groups- Lady A, Little Big Town, Midland and The High Women.

Such incredibly talented beings that all deserve winning. If you’re interested to read more about the ACM winners click here to see who else was nominated and who ended up winning! Be sure to listen to Tracks96.1 either through the 96.1 frequency or stream us on iHeart and Rova.
