Get to know country duo Dan + Shay in the lead up to the Tracks96.1 Top 100 Country Countdown
Dan Smyers and Shay Mooney are a fairly new country duo who have been together since December of 2012. The pair met at Dan's house party in Nashville Tennesse, and bonded while sitting in a tent like set up made of sheets in the lounge. They sat around together in the lounge and started jamming out to their favourite songs, as well as creating songs of their own.
From that night, the rest was history and the pair have been incredibly successful with a various amount of award wins and nominations including Teen Choice awards, Grammys and CMA's just to name a few.
Here are some of our favourite songs from Dan + Shay at the moment:
I Should Probably Go To Bed
"I Should Probably Go To Bed" one of Dan + Shay's most recent songs released on July 31st 2020. The duo wrote this song about the thoughts and contemplation that goes along about reconnecting with an ex-girlfriend. They play on the idea of going to bed instead of sending that late night text to an ex, as nothing good tends to happen from doing this late at night. This hit is currently sitting in the Billboard Hot 100 Chart.
This hit from Dan + Shay was the first song since 2013 to win both 'Song of the Year' and 'Single of the Year' at the ACM awards in 2019. "Tequila" spent nineteen weeks at Number 2 on the Country Charts before finally taking the top spot.
10,000 Hours (featuring Justin Bieber)
"10,000 Hours" was written by Dan + Shay with Justin Bieber in mind before they even mentioned the idea to him. The song's meaning is based around the time frame that it takes to learn about your significant other, "Whether it's 10,000 hours to get to know that person and truly love them in the best way or it's just the rest of your life, that's the hook" - Shay Mooney (Interview from tasteofcountry.com).
